Honey & the Moon

Monday, August 8, 2011; 10:00 AM

The correlation between honey and a honeymoon is obvious.  However, should you find it challenging to land on the obvious, let me help you along. Sweetness!  Just as honey contains undeniable sweetness, so is the case with the honeymoon and the 'honeymoon period'.  It is here that newlyweds get permission from life's hustles and bustles, to bask in each others presence and savor the beauty of their beginning. Careful thought should be injected into where you will honeymoon as the opportunity for such luxury may not resurface anytime soon.

Economics always dictate ones decisions.  Generally, the honeymoon is paid for by the groom and his family but, usually, is not factored into the overall wedding budget.  I urge you to shop around for all-inclusive packages that cater to your every need and, at the same time, work with your pocket.  Although common destinations are tropical resorts and cruises, know that there are other ways  to spend a honeymoon. After all, it's truly about spending quality time with each other.

For those of you planning your honeymoon, why not take your cue from the newly married prince himself, Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock.  The royal couple honeymooned in the princess' home country of South Africa.  The Knot currently lists South Africa as one of the four top honeymoon spots in Africa.

All-inclusive packages are an ideal option for the financially conscious couple.  Consider the money that you already pumped out on your wedding day. That alone should have you googling all-inclusive packages that cover your room, meals, unlimited drinks, entertainment, tips, taxes and airport transfers.  Airfare, car rentals, departure taxes, amongst others, are expenses that would not be covered in these amazing packages.

Travel reward credit cards are an added benefit for couples wanting to honeymoon on cruise liners or sandy beaches. Sandals and Beaches Platinum Plus Visa Card would assist you in building up points that you could redeem for travel, hotel stays, car rentals and merchandise at Sandals or Beaches resorts. For cruise liner style honeymoons, look into the Royal Caribbean Visa Credit Card. The fun does not stop there.

As a newlywed couple, it might delight you to know that all-inclusive rates save you up to 25% off the cost of a vacation.  Don't say I didn't try to help you save some pennies LOL.  These packages may not appeal to you if you are looking to dine in different restaurants daily and venture out beyond the confines of a one-stop package deal. Whether you opt for honeymooning in the cool waters of the Maldives, going on an African safari or simply taking in the splendor of Los Cabos, do it in the spirit of love knowing that this is the beginning of the rest of your lives together.  Some days may be sweet while others may be sour but, always cherish both seasons knowing why you came together in the first place.
